So this one has my blood boiling! I’m minding my own business, getting my groceries when I overhear a supervisor trying to convince a young store worker to do more shifts. The thing is, this is a big chain supermarket in the uk and they just didn’t want to put the effort into training someone else on a particular department. The girl was standing her ground, refusing to take more shifts, as she was in the last year of school and had her a levels to prepare for. The (male) supervisor kept at her for a good 15 minutes (I kept circling round in case she needed backup). He clearly didn’t care that the biggest exams of her life are this year and she needs to prioritise her education. He just wanted those shifts filled. SO HIRE MORE STAFF! Or ask literally any other colleague. Seriously I feel like making…
Antiwork is actually Prowork
Implementing the 4 day work week is not actually anti work, it’s pro work or rather both I should say. Four day workweek means your company earns more and is overall just better since your employees are way more efficient because they are happier and have more energy and they also work less hence less costs. It benefits literally everyone. It’s not even a matter if your pro work or anti work politically or whatnot. Sorry for the attention grabbing title, please share this.
New company asking for old pay stub?
The place I work recently got sold and the new company is doing their onboarding. They are asking for photo ID, social security card and last pay stub. I have no problem with ID or social security card but what business do they have with my last pay stub? They already made me an offer at the same rate I was being paid so I don’t really have anything to hide just curious if they have any legitimate business asking for my last pay stub. Thanks AW!
Employer United Way donation drive
My employer started their yearly United Way donation schtick this year. I was recommended to give 1 week's GROSS pay. Which would be ~ 1% of my net worth. Donating that would get me 1 extra vacation day, whoopty do! On the opposite end of the wealth spectrum McKenzie Scott gave away .02% of her net worth to the United Way and I haven't seen the end of articles sucking her figurative dick about it. TLDR: I passed on giving 2.5 weeks net pay to the United Way which was the recommended amount by my employer.
I am an escalations manager
I get paid above average for this job, so that isn't really my complaint. My complaint is the affect this is having on my mental health. I got “written up” for not showing enough empathy to customer who was calling me a “see you next Tuesday” and every other name in the book, as well as not listening to what I was saying and screaming at/over me. Of course, I dealt professionally with the caller and didn't even hang up on him. He complained, and as a result, someone listened to the call and their takeaway was I didn't apologize enough or show enough empathy. THis whole situation brought me back to when I was in an abusive marriage and would just curl up as small as I could and not say anything other than how great he was, how much I loved him, how sorry I was for upsetting…
Want to leave on time? Too bad :)
I work at a daycare, and usually close. Yesterday (9-27) I was asked to go to a sister building and help out Bc they were very short handed. I worked there from 8am-2pm. When I came back to my building I still hadn’t had a break, so I took a half hour, thinking I’d be leaving at 5. When I called my boss around 5 to see if someone was coming in for me, she got very passive aggressive and pretty much told me to suck it up, I needed to shut the room down. I am always late leaving the building because parents don’t come pick up their kids on time (we close at 6, I’ve waited for parents past that). I am always asked to come in early with “no guarantee of getting out on time”. Not doing that shit any more.
I work a non union job in a union shop
Without getting too specific I gotta say a lot of yall would lose it in here lol. I work in trades and people have no respect for people in my position. It's so unprofessional at times and yet I really love my job. I'm a high school drop out and it's given me the opportunity to buy a house and a decent car as well as keep food on the table for my family. I also legitimately enjoy my work. That being said people call me outside work hours almost everyday or call me in randomly. Also some of the bosses in the shop (who are my client) are straight up disrespectful. You get cussed out, talked down to and just shit on in general. Some people in the union really want me to join and I think I'm going to go for it. A lot of my gripes would…
