I fucking hate that little bell (rant).
I work at a deli and there's a little bell for customers to ring if I'm busy and I don't see them. About 50% of the customers just keep slapping the bell until I come over to them. It's such a stupid thing to get pissed about but for some reason it invokes a primal rage within me. I can hear the first ring, you don't need to keep hitting it. But nooo, Mr. Johnny Dumbfuck has to make sure the whole store knows he needs salami. The deli I work at is extremely understaffed and I have to fry chicken, bake chicken, cook rotisserie chicken, slice meats and cheeses, clean all the dishes and the slicer, stock shelves, prepare the chicken for tomorrow, and run the bakery and meat counter next me. I work 5 to 6 days a week. So I'm already tired, the last thing I wanna…
what is fast paced?
How is it that every job post says fast paced environment? Is everyone jogging from one spot to the next ? Gobble down your lunch ? Wt-holy-h !
My day starts when you text me
I just overheard a nurse or other medical professional (in scrubs) on the phone complaining about how their boss always texts them before they clock in. They were ranting about this and then I think they came to the conclusion to let their boss, the doctor, know they their day starts when they get their first text. Even at 6am or whenever (whether that means clocking in or just complaining about ‘dont text me’) I agree with this. Im tired of being texted or called off the clock. Even low paying jobs. I’ve had some bosses say ‘youre just a waiter, etc, you need to be able to pull it together for the team’ And im fucking sick of it. If im hourly, then im charging by the hour. Dont like it? Then wait till I clock in to talk to me I’ve had texts at 5am the morning of work,…
unpopular opinion: don’t go to college
ok so just my 2 cents but if I was graduating high school today, I would NOT go to college- -my brother is a software engineer works in tech, makes around $200k and some of his co workers never even graduated high school, let alone college. they were just very good coders -many tech companies and other big companies (Apple, IBM, Google, Tesla, Netflix, Random House) are indicating that they will now accept certificates and things instead of college degrees -many of my friends who went to my Ivy League college, and similar colleges, switched careers and did non-degree programs to switch into their current careers (digital marketing, UX, software engineering). some of them also started businesses in new fields which didn't require their degree -even people in my old, very traditional career path (environmental science/engineering) did not always have a college degree and/or their PE,…
So I started this seemingly great job at this boutique kind of place. It wasn’t open yet so myself and the manager were working every day to get the store ready. I started noticing homophobic comments such as: 1) we carry lgbtq friendly products that had some rainbow decorations on them. He told me, “do these offend you? Because if they do I will gladly take them off the shelves.” 2) we were in desperate need to hire a staff rather quickly and he was letting me sit in and conduct some interviews. As he was going through resumes on Indeed he said: “I’ve had to reject dozens of damn resumes because they have stupid preferred pronouns in them. I don’t want to deal with that gay bullshit in this store all day.” And then he went on a rant about ‘there are only 2 genders last time he checked.’…
