Winning a strike is not just about good organizing or a clever approach to the law. Its about recognizing the core class conflict – the irreconcilable differences of interest between worker & employer – and seizing every opening to aggressively fight for our demands even if it means breaking the law

From a postcard marketing company

People should just take their kids out in a hurricane so they can sell postcards. Not sure if I am allowed to link the story. Let me know if I can.

Got Former Boss to Lose Ownership of his Restaurant

This was back a few years ago, but I worked as a server/bartender at a small Greek restaurant. Very small, casual place. The owner, Angelo, however, was a nightmare. You never knew if you'd get him in a nice mood, or a foul mood when you walked in. I was initially hired as a bartender, but because I was/am very young, and look even younger, the men who would come in were 30s-40s, and while they were happy with me, Angelo wanted to have someone more…enticing behind the bar, so he hired a 30-something lady Lea (very obviously had a lot of plastic surgery done, but she was the nicest, and we got along well), and gradually I was reduced to just serving and was thus 'forbidden' behind the bar. After that, Angelo hired another girl even younger than me, named Chelsea to work as a server as well. Since…

Fighting a losing battle….

Well, I never thought I would post anything on Reddit, let alone 'antiwork' as I am the opposite of this! But here goes….. I've been working at a restaurant in France for over 6 years, extremely busy summers (500 covers a day) and during the winter I just help out when needed. The restaurant is fully booked almost everyday in the colder months, around 60 people due to the seating arrangement indoors (too cold outside) and it is set in a large, old family home which the owner of the home, is also the Boss of the restaurant. Amazing Boss, extremely generous for the staff, great staff food after service, great bottles of wine (one of the best wine cellars in all of France)…..almost too nice in that he doesn't want any stress and upset anyone. I work lunch and dinner services. Roughly about 13hrs a day. 6 days a…

pay you a fair price? that sounds like you know nothing.

Years ago, before the whole pandemic, I looked for a job with my brother. we found a place to work that was looking for people with no experience. (They paid in “white” that is in contract as we say in my country) In the interview everything went well, when we came back, My brother told me that he even negotiated the payment but said he would think about it. How much was the company willing to pay? Less than half the minimum wage, and we are not talking about a “small” company or just starting out, it was a company with branches in many countries, and in its best economic moment , when we got numbers it gave us negative numbers at the end of the month, literally it was not enough to reach half a month. We were able to message the interviewer and tell them that we appreciate…

My boss’ response to me freezing in rainy weather

Context: I’m a 17 year old part-time event marketer. Boss seems to care more that the booth does not have sufficient equipment (which is really unnecessary).

Why do managers make you find someone to cover your shift, even when you’re calling for a day off two weeks in advance?

Isn’t that why you’re having me do this two weeks in advance in the first place? So YOU can do the schedule?
