Hot damn, a day off!

Life is boring.

So let me get this straight. We go to school for 4 years to still get a low paying job. Then we have some kids and have someone else raise them because we have to go to work in order to provide for them. Get maybe 4 hours a day to ourselves, rinse and repeat? This is so boring to me. I’m tired of working all year to get 1 week off and fill someone else’s pockets. There’s so much more to life than this and I wish we could all break this cycle. That’s all. I’m just not impressed. Throw away account.

Should I give a specific figure when asking for a raise?

I’ve been freelance writing for a small outlet for the past few months. It’s shift work and they pay me £110 per shift. I do it a few days a week but it’s not that great money (they first offered £100 but I asked for more and that was all their budget could stretch to.) The past few months have been our busiest period of the year and we smashed our highest daily and monthly views. I contributed heavily to this and I also work the night shifts, which no-one else tends to do. It’s demanding because I have a business to look after too. And the time I work for them comes out of my business time, so it needs to be worth my while. Which, currently, it isn’t, but I enjoy the work and I need them to build up my portfolio and gain experience. I’m planning on…

Workers now have the upper hand — but employers continue to offer uncompetitive salaries, study finds

https://www.thestar.com/business/2022/09/05/canadas-wage-gap-crunch-a-million-positions-go-wanting-by-job-seekers-who-dont-want-to-work-for-peanuts.html Forget the worker shortage — there’s a wage shortage, according to a prominent Canadian economist’s analysis of new Statistics Canada data. According to the analysis, two-thirds of job postings are offering wages too low to attract applicants. David MacDonald, senior economist for the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, analyzed data from a new temporary labour force survey question that asked workers what the lowest wage was they would accept. He then compared that data to the available jobs posted, and found that 63 per cent of job postings aren’t meeting the minimum worker expectations for wages — in some industries, by a lot.

wage theft settlement (class action lawsuit)

On behalf of my wife. Opened the mail this morning and enclosed was a check for $2082 for lost wages and settlement. My wife got notice 8+ months ago about a class action law suit against her company for not getting proper breaks or not getting paid for that time and unpaid OT So she received $444.43 for lost wages and the rest of the $2k was for settlement. Even though she never filed a complaint some one did and that started an investigation. So always report thing like this to the labor department, because even if it doesn't effect you very much imagine randomly getting a $2k settlement out of the blue. especially if like most of us are living close to that edge of paycheck to paycheck, and boom an extra $2k handed to you. Would that help you out with some bills or give you a buffer?…
