Whether society collapses and we start farming to live, most of us will have to work. I hope you are all able to find work that is comfortable and enjoyable for you. I know it's hard. I have spent a lot of time trying to figure out how I could avoid it too, but no such luck. When I came across this subreddit I was frustrated at first, because in my mind all the hard work all the people have done before us has gotten us to such a great place. We are all very fortunate for that, and being antiwork seemed to me to be disrespecting all the good that came out of people's willingness to work hard for the greater good. We have many great inventions and things we take for granted that had a grueling path of hard work to overcome before we could enjoy them, like…
If not, why not? And if so, whats keeping everyone from doing it?
Working a Desk Job
This week I volunteered to cover a friend at work for a few days due to them being out for a minor surgery. Normally I work from home, but in covering them, it requires me to be in the office at the front desk. It's answering the phone and talking to people when they come in. Nothing difficult…but holy shit this is so boring. I don't understand how so many jobs require people to just sit and wait for people to come around. I'm sitting here counting down the minutes until I get to go home. It's awful.
Out of the rat race?
Have you ever thought of something that will eventually get you out of the rat race? A buisness, passion, a website/app or even self employed? What is it? Care to give some pointers?
Daycare troubles.
So I currently work at a daycare in Washington state and it is a shit place, the staff are terrible and don’t watch the kids the management doesn’t do anything to help the troubled kids, maintenance is practically non existent I’m thinking of quitting but before I do that I would like to have an inspection or an audit done of the place so it can be shut down. What are my resources for going about that, because this place is not good.
My coworkers and I were moved from a very unsafe building after it was shot up, bullets embedding themselves in computer desktops, holes everywhere. We consistently had problems at this office before this point, and with a single exit with major blind spots, in a bad part of the city, and no security, it wasn’t ideal. After it got shot up and the perp was never found, they moved us across the street. Now they are saying they have to move us out of our current location, so they are putting us back into the unsafe building. We almost didn’t find out until move day, but luckily another employee slipped up and notified us. We don’t really get a say. I feel helpless about the situation.
I’ve been at this company for a year, I knew the company my was in association with a local union but I never really found out what that meant for me (my company is not really good about communication) and I’m curious how this can impact me. What I do know is the company can now change our schedule for various reasons and instead of the limited yearly raise the company doubled it. However I can’t help but think I’m missing something here? Thoughts?
i dont know, i probably sound lazy to some but it just seems like a lot of hours straight to work. what do yall think
Trying to be brief here: My current position informed me during recruitment that it would be 1-2 days in the office. When I got the contract it says 3 days in the office(I could pick the days). I raised the issue with the person doing the hiring and the person that would be my direct manager(separate people). The hiring person said they wouldn’t budge on this. The direct manager said just sign it and we’ll work things out ourselves. My manager and I did just that and I very happily went in about once a week for awhile. At the beginning of this year my job went completely remote for a couple months and I was even happier. Then we started coming back to the office. During return to the office it seems the issue of my days in the office was raise as part of a change in the…
work forces breaks or takes hours
My job literally took 30 minutes off per day of worked hours because of a mandatory break we are suppose to take. We work kitchen and there is no time for a break. Our local manager knows this so thought of a work around. We stay another 30 minutes extra just sitting there doing nothing. They still take off 30 minutes from our time but now we take that break at the end of the work day, which is so stupid. It's just a waste of time; they still pay and we lose 30 minutes. Feels humiliating like they just wanna show they're in charge. Damn, just let us do our jobs and leave.
