So as the title reads, I am being scheduled for my days off; not vacation days, the days every week i’m not supposed to go in. Now granted, we are SEVERELY understaffed, but in the the last three weeks, I’ve only had three days off, and it’s looking like this week may see me working 6/7 days yet again. I’m tired of our GM’s poor staffing abilities reflecting on me, especially when all of the workers who have been here much longer than me see their schedule kept the same. This place is like a big ponzi scheme because of the high turnover rate with new hires and the repetitive grunt work they’re told to do so the longer-tenured employees stay happy. All in all, how do I let my employer know I should not be scheduled/won’t come in on my days off (that he approved)? I’m working days and…
I need to vent.
I’m starting a new job soon and I’m very excited. My current role is… just not suited for me, but my supervisor has been supportive of my decision to leave which was a huge weight off my conscious. However, I’m being asked to work overtime for 6-8 weeks after my last day because no one else can do my work and HR is so slow that it will be impossible to get someone in the position even though I gave 3.5 weeks notice in advance of my last in office day. So I’ll be finishing out my time here, then starting a new full time job AND working maybe 10 hours a week remotely for my current job for who knows how long. I want to help my current team transition smoothly; but hot damn, I know I’m going to be exhausted. I already seem to sleep my weekends away…
Best job interview tips
I finally got the interview at a job that will be giving me a decent jump in salary (I have been counting pennies for months because my current job refuses to give me a raise). However, I also get so nervous before interviews and don't present my true, best self. Any tips would be so much appreciated!
“Industry Standards” are fraudulent
It seems like “industry standards” gets thrown around by businesses/corporations to justify why certain financial choices are made (or not changed even when they're clearly not up to par), particularly with workers' pay and benefits. What good are these “standards” when the industry is set up to rob us and make us grovel for scraps?
Just a short rant. I'm a MA. I just got off the phone with a prospective employer who ended up turning me away after I answered her salary expectation question. My answer was only $15/hour. Some places have the audacity to offer $9. $9 even though most healthcare providers don't have the knowledge or time to do the many tasks that MAs carry out in order to keep said providers pockets stuffed with cash and your health in check. Just wanted to bring a little attention to us MAs. Rant over.
SPS called.. no school tomorrow.
You hate your job. Or maybe you hate the people you work with. You want to quit, but you’re afraid. What are you afraid of? What’s holding you back?
Scheduling problem
Hey so my job expects me to stay hours later than they schedule me almost every shift. I work at a movie theater and the reason I need to stay late is because the expect me to continue ringing out customers past close. Last week was especially bad with us having to stay nearly three hours late and one of the managers literally said I'm not allowed to close or leave an hour past closing time and at the exact time i was scheduled for. I live in an at will state so they can fire me for any reason but if i can get a recording of them saying that again do you think it would be safer to just leave when my shift ends? This is kind of an issue especially last week because my partner was on vacation and i needed to feed the cat, who had…
On-Call Jobs Are the Worst.
Even when you're not on the clock, you still belong to the company. Wanna take the kids to a movie? Okay, but you might a get a call 30 minutes into the film. Wanna watch the game? Fine, but you might have to miss the second half. Wanna relax and have a drink? Nope! Can't have that! They pretty much own you.
