Just learned that even if you have an injury, are sick, etc. at my job and have a note PROVING it, they still count it as a call out and disciplinary action will still be taken out. I just think that’s absolute bullshit considering I can barely walk on my foot.
HR and COVID
My partner and I both caught COVID and have been sick for the past 5 or 6 days. I had no issues calling out of work, but my partner is having a more difficult time. Their work told them to wait for a call from their HR department and it finally came at a really odd time so the call was missed. They have since called multiple times and left voicemails each time but still nothing from HR. What would y'all do in this situation?
kapo or prisoner functionary was a prisoner in a Nazi camp who was assigned by the Schutzstaffel (SS) guards to supervise forced labor or carry out administrative tasks. Also called “prisoner self-administration”, the prisoner functionary system minimized costs by allowing camps to function with fewer SS personnel. The system was designed to turn victim against victim, as the prisoner functionaries were pitted against their fellow prisoners in order to maintain the favor of their SS overseers.
I took a 1 week vacation on July 4th. In February I asked my boss if it was alright. Got no response. Asked again 2 or 3 times over the course of the next two months. May 1st I put it into the work calender and said. “Hey I put that vacation time taking into the calendar, take a look and let me know if it's all okay.” No response. Eventually I take my vacation. At my review the director brings it up and says something like “we really need you to be more communicative about time off, that vacation you took came as a shock and it was hard for us to get coverage.” Meanwhile my boss can't even let me know what day off I have till the week of… I've discovered thus year that working for a non-profit means there are 12 people who make 60-90k who…
docs note won’t save you – union update
Fun update for y'all. I just learned that doctor's note will no longer save us from getting points on our point system at my job, thus getting us closer to getting fired. I'm pretty positive this is the last dit attempt to try and get rid of us because we are getting close to our vote for the union. The whole company is in a panic because other stores are also in the process of unionizing. I live in Illinois and the South Beloit location of my job has also just secured their vote. So yeah. That's totally fun….
I worked for a nonprofit as a teacher providing over-the-phone free tutoring. During COVID, everything went remote, and I moved to Mexico to stay with my long-time partner, now husband! This year, all of the management turned over. New director, new program manager, and everything seemed to be going great! Today at 11:00 while I’m heading to the airport, I get a “when can we schedule a time to talk today or tomorrow” email. In the back of my head, I knew this could be what this was about because I don’t live in my home state anymore. The new director of board wants to “focus on teachers in our state who teacher our standards” – no talk of an ongoing professional development to stay up to speed – I’m a college educated professional who graduated at the top of my class, for fucks sake! What a troglodyte. My boss…
Hi everyone. I work for a larger nonprofit, about 2k employees. I just started a few months ago so I don't know very many people well. It was just announced that we will be having a mandatory conference where they do provide hotels but you're required to share a room. I know since we are a nonprofit they are penny pinching so I get that. But I'm so uncomfortable with this, for so many reasons. I am neurodivergent and just thinking about this makes me feel anxious and overstimulated to the point of tears. I would understand if it was just one or the other, like roomies were required but it wasn't mandatory to come, or vice versa. Is this normal? I don't know what to do or who to talk to.
An update to this post: Why I'm unhappy with my 18% raise Turns out that my company recognized I needed a 30%+ raise. HR literally told me that if someone was due a 30%+ raise, they bumped us down on our job performance scale to get a smaller raise. Their reasoning was that they needed to be fiscally responsible and make their budgets work. Obviously, I'm fairly upset that my company actually recognized I was underpaid and still decided not to pay me properly.
Hey all, After seeing a rash of “Do I have to sign this?” posts. I thought I'd share a little tactic that I came up with, and successfully used on smaller, family type businesses. These businesses are usually the sort to try to make you sign away some sort of right or protection. Usually because they don't have an awareness of the laws or are trying to get what they can wherever possible from employees since they lack proper procedures. Disclaimer: I have only attempted this once, but it succeeded. I can't necessarily say it'll work all the time. The place I used it on might have just been extra disorganised. However, even when it doesn't. It's pretty low stakes. I was starting a new job in a trades job several years ago. I was given a bundle of paperwork to sign when I started. Payroll, emergency contact info….that sorta…
