The other day I was contacted by a recruiter of a reputable STEM company for a job. The job was a miracalous fit for my niche skillset; perhaps this was a new opportunity to explore. That is, until the recruiter dropped there was a strict hybrid policy; I would have had to move cross-country to the expensive-AF Boston metro area to take the job. And from what I gandered from the job description and the conversation I had with the recruiter, this was a job that could 100% be performed remotely. I instantly told the recruiter that I wasn't interested; I already have a fully-remote gig so why would I downgrade? FFS, I'll be your wageslave (like I have a choice), just let me do it remotely. American work life is already miserable, so why do these archaic twats have to try and make it MORE miserable?
Cry about it corporate america
This is the scenario I'm in at work: I work at a hospital as basically a COVID screener/receptionist/gopher. My position is the definition of redundant, considering actual clerical staff and unpaid volunteers can do our job just as easily. Recently, management has been making hare-brained decisions about scheduling. One of my co-workers is scheduled to work 12 hours Fri-Sun, another has to work 10 hours Monday-Thurs, in four month blocks; previously, shifts alternated every two weeks. On top of that, we are one of the only positions in the hospital that doesn't get any holidays (most other positions get alternating holidays off each year, e.g. you work Thanksgiving, you don't work on Christmas, and vice-versa the next year) and we were all told that our shifts were extended by half an hour. Over half of the people in my position have quit or gone on PRN (scheduled as needed) status…
Working in USA vs India ?
Has anyome worked in US and India ? Can you share your ecperience in terms of work culture ?
So I work for a call center that schedules medical appointments for “our nation's heroes”. I put it in quotes as they are not treated that way, but I digress. Corporate is gonna be Corporate no matter who the client is. I've been here 3 years so far and love what I do. Pay is pretty good for where I live but not nearly what we deserve. Last year, my role was expanded to include inbound calls. I hate taking calls but I do my best. Then they add another role and I do my best. Workload is low so our numbers suck and they keep telling us to try our best, “we're in this together”. I already know it's bs but whatever. I finally get my raise and it's a paltry 3.3%. It's not based on my actual performance or else I might've been closer to the inflation rate.…
Anyone else have liberal parents?
This happened last summer, but just thinking about it makes me sick to my stomach My liberal parents called me lazy for not wanting to work for them last summer. I was going to summer school and working 40+ hours a week at an internship. To make matters worse, my mom would call me lazy when she saw me playing video games for a couple hours on Sunday with my friends. She tried to restrict my video game hours (already almost zero). All of this while I was working for them about 2.5 hours a week. Glad I moved to the other side of the country for a new job. For anyone wondering: “His parents don't sound liberal”. The literal definition of liberalism includes capitalism in it's ideology.
