Hi all. I have been on workmans comp since May and I think I may be getting underpaid(yes I know I should’ve noticed sooner). I am in Michigan and the law to my understanding is that you get paid 80% of your wage. I was making $15/hr before injury. They are paying me $376 a week. Divided by 40 hours a week that’s only $9.40 an hour, but 80% of $15/hr is $12/hr. Am I wrong or am I being underpaid here? Thanks!
Just brainstorming here, but what if I posted jobs looking for CEOs and other high level positions, and then ask them questions that'll expose their shitty behaviors at past jobs.. so I can further waste their time by sending them to inconvenient locations, make them wait with no intention of showing up myself. And also make public the shitty things they've done. Just wanna get some revenge for the people.
So I've been working as a virtual assistant for this client who pays $200 a month, where I was supposed to work for two hours a day. He sends me messages, Voice notes at strange hours. In two years time gave me only a bonus of $5. He and his partner wants me to own their business and think about their business alone. I will quit but this mentality of people hiring services remotely doesn't seem to change for years.
Is there a way we can force them to separate wages paid to workers and wages paid to management, so we can see that management is being excessively paid and workers are being underpaid.
Long time lurker. So I’ve been a part of this sub for what seems like a year or so, and while I’ve seen a couple protests, some unionizing efforts, some news articles regarding r/antiwork, and lots of individual anecdotes of people sticking it to their bosses or finding better jobs…I’ve also seen an equal amount of depression, people not being able to make ends meet with 2 jobs, and suicide thoughts. Maybe it’s my fault for only sorting by hot…but are there any large scale call to actions that r/antiwork has helped get going? This is my first instinct, but I feel like the best thing to help the working class (in America at least) is to start putting working class people in local government positions. I feel like the best people would be the ones who have no interest in holding office. Point me in the right direction if…
InvitationHomes is a Farting Gorilla
InvitationHomes is a company I feel isn't mentioned enough. One of the single largest threats to affordable housing in America comes from competition. I'm not informed enough to speak about the housing situations in other countries. Wages not reflecting housing market trends is a popular topic on this sub and it's one I'd like to expand on with my own experience/thoughts. InvitationHomes is one of America's largest single-family home leasing providers. Essentially, their business strategy is continual growth by overbidding on single-family homes for sale and renting them for a profit. As you can imagine, this makes buying a home in America extremely difficult, as companies like InvitationHomes often have substantial financial backing. In fact, one of their most prominent investors was the Blackstone Group. For those that don't know, Blackstone is an alternative investment company that sold its shares in InvitationHomes for 1.7 billion in 2019.…
Is this standard practice? One of my coworkers got injured on the job and they told her to go home, rest, and go to urgent care the next day. She’s had multiple appointments at the clinic and PT yet she spoke to our health services division about being compensated and they told her that she has to wait 3 days to go to the doctor in order to be paid workers comp during times where she is at appointments and time missed for this injury. I have a feeling this is not normal. What happens if there is a serious emergency and you have to go to the ER immediately? So this persons serious injury healthcare won’t be covered by their workplace because they required immediate medical attention? Please if you have any insight let me know.
Well, I think I quit my job?
So, gave my boss my notice today. In my line of work that usually means hand over your keys and GTFO. Well, my boss says, I may make you work your two week. I'll let you know in the morning. Hmmm strange…. I go into the GMs office and let him know I'm peacing out and just gave my notice and he laughed at me and said “no you didn't.” I straight faced looked him dead in the eyes and told him I just handed over my letter to the GSM. He then proceeded to tell me he “wasn't accepting it.” I then literally got an “I'm not listening lalalalalala” from him like Peewee Herman until I walked out of the office. Point of story….. WTF just happened? I tried to quit, expecting to get asked to leave and they haven't accepted my resignation. Right-to-work state so I can up…
I work as a kitchen equipment/hvac tech and went to a store when one of the kitchen managers(a middle aged mother of 2) told me she shocked herself on the roof checking the fuse of the A/C. These people are not trained or equipped to be up on the roof in the first damn place. When I tell you I lost. My. Mind. I'm not kidding. She is sending her employees up on the roof to die. Anyone in this field or isn't an idiot can surmise how extremely dangerous that is. And the likelihood of them finding, let alone fixing the issue, is infinitesimal. All to save a buck and not call a company out.
I was told today, after previously seeing a presentation of an org chart from my boss’ boss with my name in a certain role, that not only were they not going to create that role right now, if they did create that role in the future – it would be an open application for the position. It was at that moment that I realized my company and I are misaligned on the value I provide the organization. See the role they were talking about, I view as a lateral move – because I’ve been doing my boss’ job for 3 years now. Now though – we are going to have discussions about “development opportunities” that they don’t yet have concrete examples of, to provide me the experience needed to do the job, I already think I’m doing. Now I’m a bit triggered surely; but I also have a right as…
