I work for a large corp that recently started offering multiple weeks per year parental leave after the birth of a child.
My job is salary but I’m required to work a certain number of shifts per month and any additional shifts worked on top of that requirement are paid out extra on top of salary.
I was just informed by employer that the weeks I took off for leave did not count toward my shift requirement because I was not scheduled to work. Except the reason I was not scheduled to work was because I informed the scheduler in advance which days I was going to be on leave so that they didn’t add me to the schedule and end up with uncovered shifts.
So no shift credit for parental leave because I was not scheduled to work. But I was not scheduled to work because they knew I was going to be on parental leave.
So as it stands right now I actually owe the corporation more shifts because I took their offered paid parental leave.
