I've wanted to write this for a while as I see a lot of people writing that they measure their rise in pay in percentages. This is one of the most successful slight-of-hand from the upper classes ever. Making the people measure their rise in pay in percentages is in my opinion the most devious weapon against the working class ever invented.Percentage adjustments is the biggest reason for salary inequality as I see it. If you make 50k a year and your colleague makes 100k a year an you both get a 5% pay rise, that means that you get a 2,5k rise in pay, while your colleague gets a 5k pay rise. This is effectually increasing the pay gap between the emplyees. There is no way ever that the lowest payed employee will ever reach up to the other employee. And even when counting the COL you must count in how much of the salary is actually used for COL. If a 200k employee is using 20% of his income towards COL costs, a 7% rise of COL will NOT result in a 7% rise in paycheck used for COL for that employee. However, for an employee with 50k income, using 95% of his income towards COL that will! result in almost a 7% increase. This is very important to highlight during considerations. Using percentages to calculate pay-rise will Always increase the gap between high- and low-earners. Use hard numbers, anything else is a trap to keep the wealthy in wealth and the poor as poor
