“People don’t want to work anymore”

I'm a small business owner. We make metal products and we're working with a new powder coater (a painter basically, if you don't know what that is). We picked up a batch of new prototypes today from the powder coater, and let me tell you, they were horrible quality. Fingerprints, bumps, weird textures, sand leftover from sandblasting, bare spots, thin spots, rust. Seriously bad quality. We should have checked the wrapped products before we brought them back to the shop, but the first prototype they did for us was excellent quality so I didn't feel it was necessary to check. So of course, as anyone would, I called the powder shop and talked to the boss. We'll call her Barb, because that's her fucking name. Me: “hey barb, it's me, I just picked up these products from your shop and there's a lot of problems. blemishes of all kinds. we can't accept this. frankly I can't believe these were allowed to leave your shop like this.”

Barb: “oh I am so sorry. we will come pick those parts up and redo the job. i'll tell ya, these kids we have packing stuff in the back, they're not looking out for this stuff. nobody wants to work anymore!

(immediately I get it. this person sucks.)

Me (internally steaming): “don't blame this on your packers. this is the responsibility of the shop manager. it's on that person and not anyone else. we're gonna need these parts picked up tomorrow morning, blah blah blah”

Fuck these people. We won't be doing business with them anymore.

What is with this “people don't want to work anymore” narrative?? How about just compensate your people fairly and make them feeling valued. WTF. Stop watching Fox.

Rant over.
