People who defend American working laws always contradict themselves

Someone who defended American working laws to me said that countries with better working laws than us have “arguably” better working laws (European countries that offer a months worth of PTO, a years worth of parental leave, etc.) and that those countries have higher poverty rates (my ass, countries with better working laws include: the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Spain, Italy, etc. He had no counter argument to me pointing out countries with working laws that don’t have the poverty rates he said, and when he mentioned countries with working laws worse than us, he mentioned countries that have significantly higher poverty rates than the US. When you’ve fallen in love with the system that exploits you, you just deny being exploited, and do mental gymnastics to do so.
