Hey all,
This is obviously a throwaway account but I'm a pharmacist and I've been with my company for more than 4 years working my butt off everyday vaccinating, verifying prescriptions and counseling patients. When I was first hired, I was an hourly employee without any health benefits or anything else for that matter. It is now September 2022 and I have still not been hired as a regular employee and still have no benefits. The amount of vaccinations I alone have administered in the past 6 months should have been able to pay my yearly wages. I am just at a loss of words how a company can make a person feel so unappreciated. For now, I no longer will work quickly or go “above and beyond” and will only do the bare minimum to get the job done.
So now I am planning on studying to go into law school and hopefully quit my company. As much as I don't want to see patients suffer, I do want to see the pharmacy management suffer as they scramble to keep up with demand. I believe the company and pharmacy profession itself has failed me because there are no rights protecting the pharmacists/technicians from abuse from corporate and management (impossible metrics, constant pressure to do more, etc). I hope in the future, there will be more worker rights for pharmacy staff. The burden on pharmacy staff as it is currently is not sustainable and something will break eventually.
Thank you for listening to my rant as I exit the pharmacy profession and start a new chapter in my life.
