Hi, so ive been a driver at Pizza Hut for a couple of years now, and I was told this morning by a manager that apparently the higher-ups are trying to faze out in-house drivers that are hired for driving in favor of door dash pickups. To catch you up on how the current system works, it's basically a system called dragon tail where we have in-house drivers that are assigned orders based on available runs. Say we have 2 drivers on Thursday, and four orders are coming up, it might assign 2 to one driver, and one to the other driver, and leave the last one to a door-dash driver who comes to pick up the order. The system works, in theory, to keep times down, but can be VERY aggressive when it assigns orders to door dash drivers. One time we had three drivers and three orders on the screen. It had one available for me, and the last two were assigned to the door dash drivers. It does stuff like this a lot and can fuck over in-house drivers on tips. We can cancel the door dash before its assigned, but if its assigned to a door-dash driver we can't cancel. it. Theres a button to turn off the system that automatically assigns the runs, but if we touch it at all without consent of the manager we face threat of termination. This has been my fear for a minute because with the system there's no need for in house driver. We were assured time and time again that in-house drivers would stay, but it seems like theyve changed their mind. I dont know how to feel, on one hand, I feel like this was always a possibility and something that was bound to happen. On the other hand, im pissed on how this info is going to be given to the drivers. The other drivers i think dont have a clue yet, and it hurts because some of them have been working here for decade plus.
