Pizza Parties are old news, I bring you . . . A chili cookoff!

I work for one of the richest corporations, but my company doesn't do bonuses or yearly merit raises. Instead they throw a chili cookoff lunch the day before Thanksgiving, when most folks are on holiday. I received an email today that the cookoff is cancelled because they didn't receive enough entries…. essentially, we get to throw ourselves a “pizza party”. I've worked here for two years, way longer than most people, and asked (unsuccessfully) for a raise four times. I've been promised since August that I would be retroactively compensated for the extra jobs I've been handling, meanwhile they keep pushing back the date that that's supposed to start (now it's mid-December). The man in charge makes over half a million. One of my coworkers who had been promised retroactive pay since March is moving on to another company without the pay. I feel like I should too, but I am going on maternity leave in three months.

I apply to the same job at different companies and they all offer a starting salary over double what I'm making now. It's a slap in the face.
