Shipt’s on-time policy is proof that the company is not compliant with proper classification of its workers. Further, late forgiveness and rating forgiveness is completely one sided and a farce. When I brought this up to Shipt during a chat support conversation, the agent was belittling and kept suggesting that it was my feelings that must be the cause for concern and not the facts I presented. Shortly after bringing these concerns up with this agent, my account became deactivated. Under California law, a company must not retaliate against an Independent Contractor whom is seeking clarification from the company regarding their worker classification and workplace concerns. Shipt claims that the deactivation was specifically related to having a low on-time percentage. On several occasions I have contacted Shipt via the late forgiveness type form only to be denied for reasons such as a fire which caused heavy traffic, taking extra time to stop at another store to get milk for a preferred shopper because Target had none to speak of and a medical emergency. It makes me wonder then, if these reasons do not qualify for “forgiveness” then what does? Moreover Shipt on-time policy, according to the terms of use, has language that states that deliveries must occur within the customers preferred windows. If a shopper has a perfect 5 star rating, mostly for investing the time to shop with the customer and get everything they need, including items not in the original order and Shipt is penalizing me for not being “on time” then they are revoking my ability to exercise independent judgement to maximize my earnings and drive high levels of customer satisfaction; yet another reason Shipt claimed is important in their termination letter. I find that many of Shipt’s policies are not consistent with California Independent Contractor laws and fail both the Borello test and the ABC test, which are measures that are used to determine if a worker is indeed an independent contractor or an employee. I will be posting this message everywhere and anywhere I can including taking my story to any news organization that will listen. So if the admins here don’t allow my story to be heard by other shoppers, you can rest assured that it will get around on any platform who allows it. The company will not repress good people from trying to make an honest living. And speaking of honesty, I have evidence, including a recorded support conversation and screenshots to show that Shipt changes order time slots and or removes promotional status all causing a shopper to accrue late penalties. I brought this up to Shipt many times and I finally caught them red handed. In fact the support agent I brought this up to agreed with me that it was indisputable what I had presented with my screen shots. I encourage Shipt to rethink revoking my ability to earn and strip me of my main income due to illegal policies, and reactivate my account. Further I demand an apology from the support agent whom acted outside of Shipts guidelines, taking himself too seriously and not diligently making a better decision than to terminate my employment suddenly even after having an on time percent that was below what they find acceptable for many months. It was not until I complained that this agent retaliated against me for bringing up my concern and maliciously fired me. Shame on Shipt for employing such bad actors and treating their people as disposable trash and not the drivers of their business. I expect to hear back from Shipt and this message will be going out everywhere tonight.
