I just went through an application for a remote support job, as I'm job-hunting right now. There were the usual things – resume, name, phone number, address, and work history.
Then it asked for specifics about things I'd worked with.
And then it gave me a non-skippable option to upload a photo. I dropped out of that one tout de fucking suite.
As a trans person, I really don't feel comfortable giving it as part of applying for a job. But I also don't think anyone should be required to provide a picture as part of the initial application process, or even the interview process, and not until you have to give a copy of your ID for the I-9 form.
I really hope this doesn't become a thing. It's not the stupidest thing on a job application I've dealt with – that would probably be having to describe “a situation where you received bad customer service and how you would have handled it better as a customer service agent” (“It was calling into Comcast for technical support and I would have listened when the caller said “these are the steps I have taken already to resolve the issue” instead of just asking all the choose-your-own-adventure-before-escalating questions out loud”).
un-fucking-believable.
