sorry in advance for the long read, i just have to vent somewhere. TLDR at the bottom.
last week i was told my position was being cut from the failing company i work for. the vice president started out the conversation saying i wasn’t preforming to the standard of the position, but when asked for evidence, had none. i pressed for more information and was met with nasty attitude. i did some digging before i was fully removed of my permissions and contacts and it turns out that the senior management team would have to take a 10% pay cut to keep me in my position and voted me out.
i was told that i could work less than half of my hours for a significant pay decrease meaning i would be taking home a little over 1/5 of what i was making. i would still be expected to perform all of my leadership duties in that capacity as a senior staff member.
honestly, i don’t have the opportunity currently to work somewhere else and was almost living paycheck to paycheck as it was. i had already been looking for a new job the past two months, but it seems to be a horrible time to find work anywhere.
i have to go in for my last shift of the week soon and have felt like a complete loser every time i walk in the door. all the other employees, who i used to be in charge of, know what happened and how badly i was screwed over and it’s uncomfortable. i feel horrible about myself having to sit here and work for a company that completely threw me aside knowing how badly i needed the money. i had passed up multiple other opportunities earlier this past year as i have been with this company for almost 10 years and was very loyal to it until i heard how bad the financials were getting the past 6 months.
not sure how to keep going to work without feeling like i’m allowing them to disrespect me and looking like a fool in front of all the other employees. my job search has also not brought forth any new opportunities.
TLDR: cut from leadership position without warning so that senior management didn’t have to take pay cuts. have to work a retail position now at the same company just to make ends meet and feeling like a complete idiot.
