I work as an HVAC apprentice, and recently have been going to the VA for disability related issues, and because of this— I had to inform my employers. Give it about two weeks afterwards, and I’m being told I am a liability and had to turn my keys in and was placed in another department after this. I was pretty angry and upset because I asked why this was occurring, and as I was told: “You are not able to control yourself and can cause harm possibly to yourself or the company’s assets.” Of course, I asked if this was a permanent change, and their response was, “This is where you have to be until further notice.” I looked into this and saw it is in fact illegal to not allow a disabled employee to work other positions or spots based on a disability. To reiterate this: I’m not physically disabled, I am perfectly apt of operating vehicles, climbing ladders, and using equipment. Any advice from anyone? I don’t have anywhere to go, most places won’t hire disabled veterans and I just don’t really know what my options are. Do I suck it up and work this position until then or find a new place that is accepting of my disability?
