To preface this was through a recruiter who approached me and passed along my current salary.
After an introductory phone call with the industry recruiter who approached me I was set up for a video call interview with the CEO, CEO’s executive assistant, and another executive. Video call went great and I then was invited to take multiple online assessments. The assessments gauged intelligence, compatibility ratings, and few other areas. Got high marks on all and was invited for an in-office interview. The non-CEO exec was there again, along with am HR rep, and the location manager. This went better than the first interview and there were great feelings and vibes all around.
Recruiter was excited and told me that the employer was definitely going to make it worth my while financially speaking if they decided to move forward. The next day they had the recruiter call me to proposed an offer. Very excited until I heard the offered salary, $2k less than I make now. Excuse me?
Consider this as well
– This was for a Team-lead level of what I do now at current job
– Was to require hybrid of 3 days in office a week (besides the full remote I’m doing now which they knew)
– The offer also changed to include 5 days in office a week for first 3-6 months across two different offices
I was disappointed and shocked to say the least. I let the recruiter know that my bottom line again was +$7k what I make now ($10k more than what was offered). This is due to me having to acquire a vehicle to meet the requirements of in-office work and because this is a leadership role version of what I do now. Recruiter asked if +$3k from what I make now was ok. Again, no (Reminder: everyone involved knew what I current earn).
He called the CEO to re-negotiate, meanwhile I texted the recruiter to emphasize I was excited for the opportunity and liked everyone I had met. Again the money has to come not for shits and giggles but because of necessity. Recruiter called me back and said the offer stood where it was, -$2k my current earnings. Obviously I passed
How the heck are you trying to poach people from their current job by offering more responsibilities for less money? It’s an employee’s market, don’t take on offer just because you were selected as the final candidate
I do have other options brewing in early stages. To clarify further: i currently take public transportation for the off chance I go to the office for current job and the two offices I would’ve had to go into are each about 45 mins driving time away. Stay strong out there everyone and know your worth!!
