Slowly losing my mind every day at this job. Without going into specifics it is a pretty large thrift store. I am absolutely shocked and appalled at the amount of dysfunction and drama in this extremely toxic work environment, and I can honestly say I have never worked in a place like this. It has gotten to the point that I am seriously feeling compelled to make a documentary about this experience because I have quite a few current and former employees as well as customers that have said they would be willing to talk about it in some kind of interview.
The straw that broke the camels back was them firing the store manager for no reason about a week and a half ago. As the assistant manager I am next in line in the “chain of command”, and have received zero communication as to why the store manager suddenly disappeared out of nowhere. Customers and employees are both outraged because she was an amazing person with a good heart. The most fireable offense she committed was maybe helping out homeless people with a discount, thats just the kind of person she is. This place is a meat grinder. The amount of turnover is enough to make your head spin, and they seemingly fire people on a whim. Oh and they just installed an awful new soundtrack today that literally sounds like something theyd play on an elevator ride down to the first layer of hell.
I am sorry for the rant but I am just feeling terrible about this whole situation and needed to vent. Despite the laughable pay rate, this job was actually pretty chill in the beginning but now I am scrambling to find a new job. The amount of stress I am under to just get caught up with my bills has not been helping at all, so I humbly ask for your prayers for my sanity and mental health.
