‘Productivity’ at a Japanese company

Just one example: To increase ‘efficiency’, they want us to write down how many minutes it takes us to draft, translate etc every single email. But how about we spend the entire morning meeting talking for half an hour about who is throwing what in which bin? Should a veneer or plastic bag be used? Should the lid change color? The irony is deep and entirely unrecognised by the majority.
