I’ve been promoted to supervise a different team (unionized technicians), so I know how things run here from my previous position. Unionized workers are hourly ($38-42+), scheduled for 8.5 hrs a day, that includes 30 minutes of unpaid meal break and work 8 hours. Now my department manager is having me to make sure my crew take their break or leave 30 minutes early (80% of the time they can). The company does not want to pay over time since no one is asking the workers to put in the OT work! Now my crew is grumbling at me for being a sold out by enforcing them to have a break or leave early, so they can’t “sneak in” some OT pay. Like seriously folks? Only been at this for 4 months and I can see myself start being less friendly because I felt I’m being taken advantage of for being proworkers. Advice?
