So I've been peeking at this sub for a bit and recently remembered something questionable from when I worked at a diner 5 years ago.
We used to get trash tips bc it was in the middle of nowhere, like 5-10 percent tip rate. We had to record our cash tips and credit card tips were auto recorded. I actually played along and recorded my tips.
2 months into my job a district lady comes in because of the places poor performance. She has a 1 on 1 meeting with each of the cashiers (none of us know what goin on, we're all sweating buckets). I was 3rd to go into a meeting with her.
She explains to me that my reported tips were suspiciously low. She further explains that I was forgetting to record my cash tips and shows me a paper with my cash tip reports from the last 4 pay periods. They were all correct, and I told her people don't like to tip well.
She didn't acknowledge what I said and handed me a paper to sign. She said that because my tips were low, she would recharge all the credit card tips I'd gotten over the last month(so basically make it look like i made double the momey without it being in my pocket), or I'd have to go into a period of unpaid training (unspecified), or be let go(i was broke and behind on bills so that was spooky).
I signed it bc I was a frightened 18 year old.
The place closed down 2 months later for unrelated reasons.
What should I have done in that situation? I ended up having to pay takes on money I never got. That was my hateful spark for capitalism.
