Hi all, would like your thoughts around what you would expect a team leader position to entail.
I moved into the team leader role 6 months ago (after being made redundant elsewhere) and beginning to feel like my title is simply that, a title… The team leader role is a new one, previously the team reported to the operations manager. They hired me to fill that new role as the planning team has grown and is still growing.
One of the team approached me a week ago to say that they had a drs appt at lunch so would have a slightly longer one to cover that and would work the difference later. I didn’t have an issue with that, they are good at their job and simply said thanks for the heads up.
My manager threw a hissy fit at said team member later, and said that all requests have to be approved through him and not to go through me.
My question to you is this: would you expect the leave requests to go through me, to manage workloads and things and not to the manager above (unless I was away or couldn’t accommodate the request). I feel like the manager above me does not respect the role he hired me to fill and cannot let go of what he used to do (and hired me to do).
As an aside, I am looking for a new role as this isn’t the first instance and he is a misogynist twat…
