Quit my job to witness my daughter’s birth and be by my wife’s side during complications

I was working for a home remodeling company once. Actually, I was the owner’s apprentice, but my true responsibilities were labeled as “project manager” I essentially ran the entire company for him. I coordinated with home owners and oversaw workers completing projects for these home owners. In my time at this company (approximately 4 months total) I witnessed the owner do many questionable to down right evil things, including but not limited to targeting old people and tying up their credit in multiple unapproved loans they will never pay off for the rest of their lives and over charging these people for home remodels by tens of thousands of dollars. He was using their inability to see well to force them to e-sign documents that they weren’t even aware of the details of. It was sickening and I began immediately plotting my escape and his downfall. Utmost importance was taking…

Utmost importance was taking care of my pregnant wife and keeping our household afloat financially. It took a while, but I used free time to study licensing for the trade I’ve been learning for years prior to this job and eventually got my state contracting license and found an investor, started my own LLC and created a HVAC and refrigeration business that wasn’t really going anywhere at the time. I had no marketing experience so had no clue how to promote business. Anyways, I digress to the main story-line here… my wife, at 6 weeks prior to estimated delivery date, began experiencing wild health complications from hypertension to mental health issues, vision issues, and more. We called the midwife we were using to ask advice one night and she told us her blood pressure was so high we needed to go to the er to prevent her from having a stroke and risking both her and my daughter’s lives. My wife would spend the next 14 days in bed. She had already been on bed rest for 2 months prior because the hypertension started a bit before the rest of the symptoms.
At the ER she was diagnosed with covid-19, preeclampsia, gestational diabetes (but 2 weeks earlier, passed a glucose test), and more. We had followed all guidelines, ate healthy, and exercised regularly. We firmly believe based on the timeline, that COVID-19 caused all of these symptoms (later found out a**hole boss is the reason we had covid also. He knowingly brought it in to work and told us it was just allergies).
We were in the off season at work and only had 2 projects that I was successfully managing from a hospital room (against his knowledge). When my wife’s delivery date came (they induced her at 5 weeks early), I requested a couple weeks off of work to be by her side. They were actively giving her blood transfusions because she was hemorrhaging and there was concern for her life expressed by the doctors and midwives on staff.

He refused and said “you can have a single half day off of work”

I got so mad I quit my job (six figure salary btw) to work full time for myself and gave myself the next 2 weeks off.
Within 3 months we did over $60,000 in gross sales all above a 25% profit margin and continued pushing for the next year and accidentally made ourselves very wealthy with this rash and scary decision.
Anyways, long story short, take that risk! Don’t let someone stop you from pursuing your dreams dawg. Life is short. Live like it.
And remember, you can earn a good living without scamming people.
