Quit My Toxic Job

I have been doing fitness for about 6 plus years now, and in January of 2022 I wanted to a different style of fitness training/coaching to my resume. I join a franchise “I Love KickBoxing.” I knew my different style mix with this would be quite unique when it came to classes. Typically, a job has a set time of training time, which I understood. After 3 months of virtual training, in the whole staff (4 people) were still doing the training because of the owner who didn’t live in the same state as the gym.

It got to the point where it was getting in the of my personal life, and my other clients!

I toughed it out thinking it would change, and it did for a bit until the owner finally decided to come in. He came in ripped everyone apart even threatened to fire me on the spot if the next task I did was not spot on in front of the staff. He took my kickboxing class, while even having a round of a applause at the end, he said he was bored and wasn’t challenging enough. I also had to improvise the class to make it even harder. I was told my management I could to fill in time. I took at feedback and accepted it as an opportunity to learn from him. He asked everyone who could do art very well I said my sister ! She’s a talented artist but art is subjective. In exchange she would get a free membership for each piece she does

I took his class and it was probably easier than mine, no energy, very monotone, even switched out half way. I was bored myself. I cooled down and looked for him to follow up with him about what he did differently what I could do and he went missing and went home for the day. I popped on the office laptop and I see a Facebook message to the assistant manager because she left her profile open and saw my name. In those messages I saw the potential firing of the manger. A lot of bad mouthing of current members, and even the rest of the staff were called derogatory names. This didn’t sit well with me.

The last straw my sister came in and did the art work a pretty cool design was done with what ever tools was given to her (not much). Again messages flying on Facebook and seeing he was unsatisfied with the products but in fairness he did not give her the proper vision she spent about two hours doing the board. I told my sister to reach out and after back and forth of messages between my sister and the owner. She did Not get compensated for her time and work..

This drew the line and I decided to tell HR about this situation and quit without having any back up. I took a week break from work then I get messages from people all over asking for personal training session and packages. I now work for myself and doing what I love to do without a boss breathing on my neck

There’s also more to this too like the business promoting free services then you end up spend 500 dollars, not caring for any of the clients only for the dollar. Everyone was a number. The manager quit and then we were going to go through another 3months of training…. Glad I left late April. till this day they still talk about me negatively, but it just shows you who people really are when no one is watching lol.

End Rant
