Hi everyone,
At the beginning of the year I was promoted to an administrative assistant position at my place of work. Up until now, I had not received any monetary compensation for this position change. In my previous position I made $17.95/hr. I was planning on talking to my boss if this went on for much longer but a little over a week ago they came to me to let me know I was getting a raise as well as retroactive pay. I thanked them and before I could ask any questions the phone rang and I had to answer. The day then continued to be busy and I've had some questions on the back burner that I just haven't gotten the chance to talk to them about as there just hasn't been time. So today is pay day. I was expecting a bump up to at least $19.08 considering that is what my 2 other coworkers get paid for one getting key holder and the other getting a “designated trainer” position. Not that my coworkers don't do great work, but I have all the skills that they have and now more with my new position. I was only bumped to $18.95. I'm feeling pretty undervalued with this raise and I'm not sure how to bring it up. Not to mention I never received the retroactive pay we discussed which honestly put my in a bit of a tight spot financially this pay period as I was expecting at least another $300 from the retroactive pay.
If anyone has any tips on how to bring this up to my boss, negotiation a better raise and discuss the fact I didn't even get retroactive pay that would be great as this is all new territory for me.
Thanks.
