Rant/Discussion: Bosses undervalue the Skill of Worker Retention in Team leads.

I was just informed that about 15-20% of my colleagues handed in their resignations. Reasons are chiefly that the bosses don't know how to communicate and put money above worker satisfaction. Most of us work WFH and are pretty independent. We had the CEO micromanaging workers and demanding explanations on how they booked their hours. Missmanagement caused us to lose a significant part of our bonuses last year. Training by the company is minimal although it is very important in my line of work. We already had a big exodus last year and lost about 40% of the people, but managed to hire many new guys. Now they finally drove out many of my favorite colleagues. Now they finally drove out many of my favorite colleagues. Among them my team lead, who is a fantastic boss and keeps bullshit off my back so I can do my job. The reason: they just piled work upon work on him, increased his team and refused to hire people who could ease his work load.

Now to my point: worker retention is a skill that seems undervalued at the moment. My boss and his boss where great at that and they were beloved for it. I am sure they leaving WILL cause another group of people to leave. The current labor market is good for employees, and companies need people who can make their workers happy. I am just so frustrated to see such good people go. In the last months I could literally (!) see how my great boss just became hollow and worn down. So he finally broke and left. Completely needless, but the CEOs attitude is “everybody is replaceable”. We had a great team, but the unwillingness of one man to focus on anything but short term profits caused dozens of people to leave and lose great colleagues.
