I'm an Indian working in South Korean startup. First of all, the work culture is toxic beyond expectations. One cannot leave the seat before the big boss leaves.
I once broke my finger and sent a pic that I can't work, I was told to complete the work by the weekend somehow with a few laughing emojis.
When I joined the company, I was promised a lot of things which didn't turn out to be true as they fired my then boss.
After working for one year like a mule, where they would even make fun of my lack of Korean language finally they hired a new person above me and she immediately told me to pack up my things, did not give me any 30 day notice or explanation of why she doesn't want me to work there. Since its a startup, we would directly report to the CEO and drink coffee daily. After the firing CEO didn't even come to me to ask (a year before he would get drunk and call me to promise that he has big plans for me).
I had to frantically pack up my things, make sure I transfer my money, find another accommodation (I was living in a company provided apartment, whose rent was being deducted from my salary).
However, after they learned that I will have an interview with the immigration officer regarding why I was fired, the CEO is suddenly being nice to me and saying that I'm a great guy and I'll find a good job and even offering to drop me to the airport. Just hate these companies some time.. Don't want to play the race card but considering Koreans' fascination with US, I'm sure they would not treat a white person the way they treated me for the past 1 year.
