Hi all! First time posting here and have been searching for others experiences! Gonna try to keep it short.
Found a post on a group for a local place hiring cashiers. Got called for an “interview” which was basically a run down of the job, cashier + stocking some of the items. The days : Mon/Wed (all day in my head 8hrs), then Thur/Fri closing.
Was asked how much I'd want in terms of pay then after saying yea this all fine, asked to start the next day if I could. (Red flag I missed) and said yes not realizing all day means 10+ hours to help open and close. 7h15 to 6h30. All under the impression this was to learn both opening things and closing. Ok… I was asked no actual interview questions and wasn't told any benefits, schedule in terms of the “normal” hours expected… unorganised mess. (2nd red flag I missed and I should have asked so that's my fault, but not really?)
First day, I realized this isn't gonna be something I can do. Was asked later that day if I could come in at 630am, and said yes because I'd be leaving at 12pm. I was in so much pain, my legs and feet hurt, I was soo exhausted.
2nd day, solidified it for me, with having to get up hella early, barely ate a breakfast because I'm never hungry at 530 am and after being told I'd be closing and then realising I think they expect me to work 10hrs + again, just did it.
So immediately came home and emailed another place that hadn't gotten back to me and set up an interview.
Texted my manager to tell her, I can close on monday but I cannot do 10hr days and can only do 8hrs max. She said “ok, I'll verify and well retalk monday”… I reply ” ok, what time do I come in on Monday because if its 7h15, I can't unfortunately close”
She never responded, so I don't know what to do besides bug her again Sunday. I'm praying this other place hires me, but if they don't, I'm mostly gonna quit.
I just also don't wanna have to go there to pick up a check from them awkwardly after 2 days. Anyway.
Thanks for reading my rant!
Ps: I couldn't find any employee reviews online, but I think it's because basically everyone there has worked there for years, since the 70s even (its a local small place)
