Realisticly speaking how fucked up is my situation..

I was told we lost our biggest client last week and the contract with them will end in 3 months.. Boss called me as soon as he found out. Our company was bought early this year and is in the middle of intergration…I thought I will have till at least the end of the year but with my role primary supporting this client, I think it’s very likely that my position will be eliminated once the 90 days is over.. Boss is currently helping me look for transfer opportunities in the company that bought us and I have started interviewing for external opportunities as well… I still kinda have this false hope that they will give me till the end of the year but with the way things go I felt it’s pretty unlikely.Should I ask my boss what’s going to happen if an internal transfer isn’t possible after the…

Or pretty pointless to ask given the writing is already on the wall. Is it possible to push back the termination date and stay on payroll for a while ? Or that’s only the case if I am getting a serveance?
