Taking the plunge to get out of the finance industry

Long time lurker, first time poster in this sub. I have been in the industry for almost a decade and whilst I am good at my job, I am sick of the daily grind to help customers with so much money when I just about scrape by each month. I am in the process of hunting for a new job and think I am going to take the plunge and go back to work in a little cafe and bar that are both walking distance to my home.

I feel guilty leaving my current employer and team in the shit trying to fill my position as they are unbelievably busy and will have a lot to figure out if I leave, but I need something that feeds my soul in a positive way rather than just kills pieces of it every time I sit in the office.

I have been for my first interview with the cafĂ© and now need to figure out how to break the news to my current employer that this is my plan. I am taking a risk financially but think in the long run this will be the more affordable option, which is CRAZY when I've spent so long building a “career” in the finance industry.

Scary and exciting times, I am grateful for this sub, it has really helped me feel I am making the right decision.
