I often see this conversation on internet –
Middle class worker – Middle class pays 20-40% as taxes. So, Rich should also pay equivalent fair share of taxes.
Rich brat – But, they are still paying more in absolute terms. Eg – Elon musk paid more taxes than anybody in entire US history.
Worker – No reasonable answer. Conversation ends.
What no one talks about is – Rich are using bigger share of govt. services.
Compare how much road, water, electricity infra do you use as a person and how much is used by Amazon? Similarly, compare how much defence, law enforcement, foreign affairs, judiciary systems they end up using compared to average person.
Govt. spending on person/company is proportional to assets and services used by the person. So, fair share will be for everyone to pay taxes based on assets they have not income.
