So (for context)I am only rota-Ed as a part time employee. I regularly pick up at least one (sometimes two) overtime shifts per week. Last six weeks, (this week included) I’ve worked more than my assigned hours for four of those six weeks, so this is by no means new to me.
Due to staffing issues, We usually only have full staff (four in total) on Mon and Wed, as those are our biggest delivery days. The other days is three people total.
So on Thursday, I was rostered to work. Bit odd, because it was a full complement of staff (four) but I took a picture the previous week of the rota and accepted it. The manager who checks and updates the rota was off on annual leave so I just went with it.
On Tuesday, I confirmed with A, who has been writing the rota along with N, that the rota was correct. She confirmed, and I worked my shift Thursday.
On Friday I was working with N, and almost immediately after I got in, she berated me for working the shift I’d been assigned to work.
Apparently the shift wasn’t mine, it was M’s and they’d only put me on if M couldn’t do it. (This was never communicated to me before, and I informed her that would have been helpful to know before I worked the shift. Also, once M confirmed, they should have removed me from the rota.)
Also, I should have queried it (I did, and I told her so.)
Also apparently I don’t work Thursday. I’ve worked the last three Thursdays in a row. I work every day except for one Sat Sun combo, and every other Friday. That’s it. I can be called in any other days.
And I only work three days a week. (Again, in the last six weeks, I’ve worked extra shifts on four weeks)
TLDR: I was verbally berated for over ten minutes for the apparent crime of working a shift I was assigned to work and following the rota.
I’ve made notes in my diary, I’ve alerted admin in case she changes my sign in sheet/rota after the fact so I’m covered from payroll.
Does anyone have any advice on how I could have handled this? Any advice on where to go from here?
