The title is exactly what happened. I was interviewed, and in the interview process I explained how I’m a full time student. I explain to them what medical track I’m on, and when I’ll graduate undergraduate, and I told them that my course load is heavy. I ask them how this will work out since I’m a full time student, and the hiring manager says they’re flexible. They tell me they’re flexible with scheduling and that they have many college students, and they mention nothing about working 40 hours or this being full time, so I think everything’s good, if I potentially get hired.
Weeks go by and I thought I didn’t go get hired, but I was told by the recruiter that there was another process of getting references, and I do that. 2 days after that I’m sent an offer letter, and a pre-employment date where I make sure I have all my shots and give them my things such as my id and social security card. From this point, my orientation is about 5 weeks out.
2 days ago out of curiosity I ask the hiring manager who told me that they were flexible, how the scheduling would be, and told the manager my schedule. The hiring managers response was “You certainly did not mention any of this to me during the interview. I am looking for someone someone to work Monday thru Friday 40 hours per week” the recruiter then follows up saying he’s revoking the offer.
During the interview the hiring manager asked questions about me, and I explained, and I mentioned how I’m a full time student, and me and the manager discussed how my classes were going, and how I’ll have a heavy course load next semester. I don’t understand, was I supposed to tell them my exact schedule for the fall? I wanted to, but the manager insisted they’re flexible as if they have experience hiring college students. Now that I think of it, working 40 hours a week and doing full time college work probably wouldn’t be manageable.
