I once took a new job at a computer company. It was a support company that had many different clients. After working a week there and doing all the local repair work and networking etc. we had a team meeting. During the meeting they told us they wanted us to start doing research on new technologies coming down the pipe and then and report back to everyone in the next week. They provided trade magazines and websites etc. to research stuff so we could all keep up with what’s coming in the future. The next day the owner of the company saw me reading one of the magazines during business hours. Two minutes later my boss came over and said they wanted to talk to me. She said that the owner of the company doesn’t want me doing this research on their time but rather at home or at lunch on my time. I quit three days later.
