I'm a tradie in Australia. I don't get the same exposure to terrible bosses as Americans in this place but I have a tale for you.
I started at a Fire Detection company two weeks ago. My manager didn't bother to get my uniform sizes prior to starting so I had to wear my own gear. Note: I need to wear hi-vis and a hardhat most places I go. These weren't supplied on day one when I got sent to an abbatoir. Abbatoir's in Australia have a risk of Q-Fever, a risk I wasn't aware of at all. I was sent to this site to conduct work as a visitor, not an inducted contractor. And I didn't have the appropriate PPE to work safely on this site.
Safe to say, as someone who is very safety conscious this event made sure I was checking out of this company day one. I sent out some more resumes, got a job with a better company at a better rate.
When my boss asked to have a meeting, he seemingly held back tears when I told him I gave him one weeks notice purely for money.
I won't work somewhere that is unsafe. I know not everyone has the luxury I have of picking and choosing, but I hope you do get that one day.
TL;DR – Made my boss cry when I told him I gave him a week's notice because I want more money.
