Antiwork

Retail freaking sucks and the hours are garbage. I need a new job.

I work for Publix (a grocery chain in the south). I moved from GA to FL a week and half ago and they transferred my position. When I started I was told I wasn’t getting any hours because they were “staffed”. So I was okay with it and instead I’m looking for a new job. I look at my schedule and I got 2 days of work this week. Pathetic. My last Publix I was getting 5 days, full time. Well I wake up today this Saturday morning at 11am and see a missed call at 7:05am asking if I want to work this morning. I called back and said I just saw the missed call… welp they got someone else to cover it and the shift ended at 1pm anyway. So I go to my siblings Airbnb tonight to their pool and have some drinks and pizza. They’re leaving…

So I go to my siblings Airbnb tonight to their pool and have some drinks and pizza. They’re leaving tomorrow to go back home. And at 9:30pm I get a call which I didn’t see until an hour later (I was in the pool), and had 4 drinks in my system. And hear a message asking if I want to work tomorrow in the morning. Clearly these are shifts others don’t want, since it’s the holidays and they’re calling out. I’m not responding to that. I wasn’t put on the schedule so I thought I could have a nice weekend until I work Monday when I was on the schedule.

My old store in GA wasn’t this inconsiderate and I never got calls on a Saturday at 9:30pm.🤦‍️ To me it just got under my skin. Put me on the schedule or don’t bother me… especially at two extreme times. 7am and 9pm are not good times to call people on a holiday weekend who aren’t on the schedule to begin with. I’m either sleeping in or spending time with family.

I wasn’t expecting to be called to work so I didn’t prepare for it. And that’s unfair to me. It just really pissed me off. I don’t want to wake up feeling like shit because I drank (on Saturday, so of course I drank) because I was offered a shift Sunday morning late at night… that’s bullshit! Put people on the schedule or CALL AT a normal hour. None of this 7am or late at night shit. It’s just rude. Like even my grandma and boomer parents don’t wake up at 7am on a Saturday. I get it’s the name of the game for these places but I’m a person, I don’t have psychic powers to predict when they want to randomly call me. For a place that was supposedly SO staffed, I find it funny they called my twice in a day.
