Saved my managers job

TL;DR: supervisor ruined workplace by firing the only manager that treated workers like humans and when the workers rose up he got mad. Skip until after the line if you want the point. Everything else is background context. You’d think this wouldn’t belong on this sub, but trust me, it does. Imagine having a manager that treats you like an equal, will talk with you eye to eye, and if you disagree, a calm and professional conversation will be had. Not only that, even the smallest of concerns she would put on her list of things to do. Context: I am 18 and work in a college dining hall. Yeah, it’s not that much. But it’s pathetic enough that I’m seen as a child. The superiors just see me as a name on a paper. Don’t take me seriously. I’m just a rebel alcoholic college kid working just for money…

The manager in question had been working there for 2 years. She had been acquainted with almost every single student worker and quickly became the favorite because she was basically our symbol of equality. Then, she got fired. Why? Well, they fired her because one of the four dining halls on campus were being closed and they “didn’t have room for her”. This is untrue, as where I work currently as a harsh deficit of workers.

Naturally, I was fucking pissed. So I started a petition. You’d think the superiors would recognize that, right? Some of the workers even threatened to quit! Well, they did, she was saved. But they were mad.

They started an INVESTIGATION about the petition. And about my manager’s “involvement”.

—————————

The issue everybody has with my superiors is that when we go to them (specifically one) for an issue, we don’t get it. He does everything for himself and for the good of his team. He only sees us as names on a paper. At any moment one of us can be plucked out of existence and no one can do shit about it, and I’m fucking sick of it.

I know he’s a supervisor but he shouldn’t have that much power. Hear me out: can we all agree that the workplace has a certain homeostasis created by the workers? There is a special ambience that needs to be upheld for the workplace to function. Yeah, he doesn’t care.

It’s absolute bullshit. You can’t just come into a workplace, even if you own it, and completely RUIN what was created for no reason. Then get mad when your workers rise up against you for your shitty decision. Ridiculous.

Fuck everything. At least my favorite manager is still with us.
