I agreed to work weekends and holidays if I could work under 20 hours a week. I’ve worked every holiday and my birthday for the past few months. I pick up at least 3 or 4 shifts per WEEK when people call out. This only made me seem like a pushover and my manager takes advantage.
I’m routinely scheduled over 50 hours a week. I’m completing a paralegal degree and studying for the LSAT….all of which I have no time for when working over 50 hours per week.
I also work in a pharmacy and will be the only person at pick up. So I just spend 8-9 hours dealing with angry and impatient customers every day. With zero breaks (we don’t have lunch and I don’t even take 15 mins).
Now I have to work 9 days in a row and expected to work Christmas and Xmas eve. I tried to show that I was a hard worker by always going to work when scheduled, never calling out, and filling in for absences. But it just made my manager take advantage and treat me like shit.
I don’t know how I will mentally cope with 9 days of verbal abuse from customers tbh. And I also work 5 days straight (with one day off) prior to the 9 day stretch. Wtf? I am going to fall so far behind with school and I had to quit my volunteering and another internship because of this.
Meanwhile my lazy coworkers all get to take a “holiday” and call out while I’m being abused for the whole month and work every single holiday. Or work for 9 days straight. And these are the same asshokes who complain about not having enough hours. But refuse to work weekends or shitty hours.
My boss says it’s because they have “families” LOL. Just because I’m younger and don’t have a baby or a child doesn’t mean I have no “family”. I mean, she can probably tell that I’m a loser with no family or friends (which is true). But why should I be punished for having no social life and not having a child???
