I just had a transparent chat with my senior in my team, because I was curious about if he thought I was ready to be promoted to a senior. We discussed salary transparency and it turns out he’s making $6k less per year than me, but has been with the company for 7 years and I’ve been there for 1 year.
I have a formal computer science degree, and he has a biology degree, and both positions are tech roles but still I thought he was making at least $30k per year more than me. He wasn’t upset at me, but mentioned polishing up his resume and setting up some meetings with management.
Does anyone have any advice here for me moving forward? My job pays me decently well, I just want to be a senior because seniors get yearly bonuses at my company and I’m doing the work and have the responsibilities of a senior.
Thanks.
