So here's the situation: I work in a service based IT company as a developer. I am new in this company and about 3 months ago, I was tagged in a project where we have to make some code changes on a client's software system to makesome features automated. When I joined this team, there were 3 members already – all senior to me. The client had been providing knowledge transfer sessions to them already. So I had to go through a lot of recorded content to understand the project requirements and technical documentations.
Now one of the senior members, with whom I have to collaborate on a daily basis, connects with me over a call for about 30 mins everyday – asks me about how much I have understood, my progress and asks me to explain whatever I have learnt so far. Then I have to share screen and walk him through the code and explain, while he just goes “hmm”, “right” or repeats what I just said. Everyday he would ask me to cover a topic and explain me next day or note down important points in a document etc.
Today, in the team sync meet, he and other senior members said that we are lagging behind and are going very slow and need to speed up process. Specially to me. To come up with solutions. It's a pretty complex software system.
As a senior member (solution architect) – should he also not share his views, plans and findings? Instead of asking me questions like “what's your plan for the day?”, “How is this piece of code working?”, “By when will this be done?” shouldnt he have a proper discussion?
He just assigns some task or a topic to read about and disappears all day. Next day he connects only to get updates from me.
I feel under a lot of pressure and absolutely pissed off by this attitude. Everyday I have to tell him about what I found out off my research and then he just assigns me next task.
