There was someone who used to work at the company I was at and who did the same job as I did. So out of curiosity, I simply contacted him and asked how much he made. He wouldn't tell me because that would be unprofessional. Unprofessional towards whom?! The company that he didn't even work at anymore and had absolutely no more obligations to them? Current co-workers should share their salaries with each other, but not even a former co-worker would do that. There are just so many parts of professionalism that are just used to keep us…and each other…in our place. There was also another co-worker who completely dismissed my concern of my salary simply with “no, you make enough.” You don't even know what my salary was! And if you assumed it was the same as yours, that's even more of a concern. Ugh couldn't stand him.
