Short term disability denied because anxiety is not impaired enough to cover salary

I work a remote software job. I am a kidney transplant recipient (and thus have 1000s of dollars of meds if not covered), I have a hip replacement and I have ADHD and bad anxiety. I took short term disability in december because it spiked so high I couldn’t operate at work without a breakdown. My doctor saw me, heard me, prescribed meds that eventually didn’t work for me and eventually suggested a psychiatrist (whom I’m still waiting to see). Today I was told that anxiety is not enough of an impairment to have warranted the 5 weeks I took to sort things out. I am appealing but as I’m at my wits and anxieties end with american healthcare being tied to a job – do I have ANY recourse? I’ve already requested my lengthy medical history from the doctor in preparation for the appeal but I am out of…

I’ve already requested my lengthy medical history from the doctor in preparation for the appeal but I am out of ideas and damn near out of money and there are doctors and medications that need to be paid for.

Is there any hope?
