So I’m doing a seasonal job and was hired on as an Easter Bunny. The rate of pay in my contract is $13/hr for being the bunny. However some days my employer has me doing an associate position (like cashiering) or a mix of the two. The posted rate for associates is $10.50/hr. My manager told me today to text the district manager (who does the hiring) that I was the bunny for two hours today so she can pay me correctly for those two hours. But if I signed on for $13, don’t I legally have to be paid that? I wasn’t signed on as an associate.
My manager also mentioned that pay was sporadic. One girl was hired on for $10.50/hr, another for $10.75, and my coworker for $12.50, despite all being associate jobs. Her theory was that since they’re having problems finding people, the district manager keeps increasing the advertised pay. Should I discuss this with my coworkers and encourage them to ask for equal pay or should I just leave it alone?
