So, $13/hr is where I'm sitting, they're 'quiet hiring' me into a third line of bussiness with no pay increase, and I started looking for another job. I have experience as a Teacher in that I taught people how to perform recreational sports for a lot of money per student, and I have supervisory experience in that I run a guild in World of Warcraft. I did both for YEARS.
I've been applying to higher paying positions for a few months, trying to get ANYTHING that pays better. $14, $15, doesnt matter what job, I need more. Until I started getting Supervisor positions sent to my email. $50k a year isnt great, but its twice what I'm making now. So I fudged my resume a little bit.
Do I know what its like running 20+ people for hours at a time? Yes I do. Do I know about coaching, and helping people improve? Yes I do. Do I know about spreadsheets, and data points, and making number get bigger because arbitrary reason? Yes I do. But only in a Video Game setting.
To that end, I said Yeah, all these places I've worked? Supervisor. Mmhmm. I supervised. And I've suddenly gotten a handful of responses on these sup positions. I told my family about it, and they're all rather angry with me, that I would openly 'lie' about my skills and history. Something about that's no way to get a job, they'll call around and find out the truth, I'll be black listed from future positions, and I wont have any idea what to do if I DO get hired.
I dont feel bad a single bit. Not one. These companies want to be outlandish and ridiculous with their expectations for work and compensation, then find, I'll be ridiculous with what I consider work experience. Fair is fair, is it not?
