Should I refuse to fill in for my team leader for his vacation or am I just being childish?

Long story short I am supposedly next in line for team leader and was set to take his postion this month. I find out now that he no longer is going to leave the company and got a rather substantial raise. I was ASSURED by him and our boss since September that I was going to fill in the position this January because he would be leaving. I'm seriously pissed off because I was essentially lied to for months and made a fool, because I was actually sort of excited for the promotion. Anyways, the team leader will be on a 30 day vacation in March, and I am expected to temporarily fill in until he returns. I am seriously considering declining, but if I do it's the same as declining the position entirely if it does open.
