A friend of mine has been working at a local bar for a couple months, and boy the things she has told me are unbelievable.
None of the bartenders have bartenders licenses only food handling liscenses. None of the employees is paid a wage, they just keep some of their tips and have to give a percentage to the business owner. The owner apparently forged w-4s for all the employees to sign, listing false pay history. Not only that the owner is never there, and really only occasionally comes in to yell at the workers and asks the workers occasionally to bring him money at the casino while he's gambling. Basically it's an incredibly illegally run, horrible business.
I've asked how no one has ever reported him, as even to someone with no labor law knowledge it's clear somethings wrong. My friend told me she's seen some of his hit men at the bar before, and that no one will mess with him. I've met the guy several times before, he's awful to be around but I've never considered him dangerous. I've been vocal about how messed up the business is and reporting it so it might be obvious who reported him if I did, but I also don't want anyone else to get involved if it does somehow go badly. Should I still report the business?
